Balancing Professionals Earns B Corporation Certification

Raleigh, NC (March 30, 2009) —Balancing Professionals, LLC is pleased to announce that they have become a Certified B Corporation and are one of five companies in the state of North Carolina to achieve this status.

B Corporations are a new kind of company that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. To become a B Corporation, a company must meet comprehensive social and environmental performance standards maintained by B Lab and legally expand their responsibilities to include interests beyond just the shareholders.

“Our mission to champion workplace flexibility was a natural fit for becoming a B Corporation,” says Maryanne Perrin, a founding partner at Balancing Professionals.  “With significant changes in workforce demographics, technology and the environment, the workplace has outgrown the one-size-fits-all model of work and needs new, flexible options that better support employees, communities, the environment AND a company’s bottom line.”

In just 18 months, B Lab has certified over 180 B Corporations in the United States including Dansko, King Arthur Flour Company, Method Products, and Numi Organic Tea.

About B Lab

B Lab is the nonprofit organization that certifies, supports, and promotes B Corporations. An independent body, theStandards Advisory Council, sets the legal and performance standards for B Corporation certification and oversees the evolution of those standards and the auditing of B Corporations.

B Lab envisions a new sector of the economy which uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. This sector will be comprised of a new type of corporation - the B Corporation. B Corporations will be legally recognized by the states, tax preferred by the IRS, and valued by investors and consumers. In our generation, this marketplace of B Corporations will reach 5-7% of US GDP -- the size of the non-profit sector today.
